Stardew Valley Cat: The Best Cats Guide

So you want to adopt a cat in Stardew Valley? Good thing. All the negative IQ dog lovers in the world will hate you now. But we all know how smart cats are, and so you are!

Good job on choosing the superior mammal. In this guide, I’ll talk about how to get around your new emper—I mean pet, the cat. Cats are superb and they’re good to have. Although there aren’t any bonuses from having either a cat or dog, you’ll have the upper hand in terms of intellectual capacity by choosing this furball.

How to Adopt a Cat in Stardew Valley

We’ve already covered how to take care of the animals in Stardew Valley. But right now, we’re not focusing on animals in general.

There are several things you need to do to trigger this event. One thing is to earn your first 1,000 gold. The last one is to wait from around 6:00 AM to 9:30 AM. And then go outside of your farmhouse and look for Marnie.

At the start of the game, you’ll be able to choose between getting a cat or a dog. This event occurs at the start of a bright morning on Wednesday or Friday. You can decline to keep one of these pets, but you don’t need to keep one. You can always play the game without one. But you’ll miss out on the experience of having one.

How to Take Care of Your Pets and Animals in General

In the game, there are a lot of features that were introduced. For example, there’s the Friendship, which you can form with your pets.

There’s also the Mood, and Produce, both of which are important, especially if you’re taking care of farmable animals.

I’ll quickly explain what FriendshipMood, and Produce are.

Friendship – A buildable gauge (in the form of hearts) that you can create and progress with your pets and animals. Pettingmilking/shearing, and eating grass can greatly increase their friendship with you. The mood is also affected by these actions.

Mood – A vital factor that plays a role in the type and quality of the product it can produce, especially for farming animals.

Produce – The product produced by the animals.

It’s important to take care of your animals and your pets to greatly increase their production quality. A low mood can result in a poor quality product or no yield at all. It’s important that as you take care of your farm, you also take care of the animals that help you build your bank.

Choosing Cat or Dog in Stardew Valley

There are a lot of animals in Stardew Valley, but only a certain few can be your ACTUAL pet in the game. You can choose between either a cat or a dog, but there are 3 types of them, ranging from the kittens, and puppies, to the adult pets.

You can also have a horse, which will act as your mount and allows you faster travel. But for the rest of the animals, you can just browse the Coop’s menu. Remember, Coops are important if you want to have your poultry and livestock farm.

In the end, you’ll have to choose between a cat or a dog. Choosing, either way, doesn’t affect the gameplay. I’d like to have both, that’s why I use this “cheat“.

Remember, in the game, you’re only allowed to have ONE pet at a time. You might need to cheat your way into the game by following the link above.

Hope that helps with your decision in choosing a cat. Stay updated on our latest posts. We have everything covered, from mods, guides, and everything in Stardew Valley. Happy farming!
