Stardew Valley Maru: Schedule, Gifts, and More

Have you been looking to get to know Pelican Town’s resident roboticist, Maru? If you want to develop a friendship with her, keep reading to know her schedule, gift preference, and more!

Maru sitting by the Community Center

Stardew Valley is all about life in the countryside, farming daily, and chasing the seasons. The amazing aspect of it all is meeting the many and extremely varied villagers of the valley. You get a chance to know as many as 28 people, learn their histories, and celebrate endless events, festivals, and birthdays with them.

You can even fall in love and marry someone! Yes! There are 12 marriageable candidates in Pelican Town. They all have different and interesting dating and spouse events. But, before we dive into all of that:

Who is Maru?

Maru is probably one of the most intelligent bachelorettes in Stardew Valley. She’s definitely not like other girls in town and is slightly underrated in the fandom. Before we get into that, let’s discuss who exactly this girl is.

Where does Maru live in Stardew Valley?

She is a villager currently living at 24 Mountain Road near the Carpenter’s Shop. Maru is immediately recognizable for her burgundy brown hair and magenta eyes framed by maroon eyeglasses. She is often seen around the valley wearing a purple top with a blue (maybe denim) jumper.

Her birthday is on Summer 10. She would really appreciate it if you got her a gift she likes or loves on that day. She’ll open up to you more if you do.

Family and Relationships

Maru lives with her mother Robin, her father Demetrius, and half-brother Sebastian. She and Sebastian have a stilted relationship, which is understandable with complex family situations like theirs. Sebastian rarely talks to her, and she feels he doesn’t like her at all.

The burgundy-haired girl still wishes she was closer and had a better relationship with her half-brother. It certainly doesn’t help that her father favors her very obviously over Sebastian. Robin is also concerned about the situation. We hope that the resident roboticist and the rebellious geek will one day get along.

Maru’s best friend is Penny. They often sit and chat with each other on the benches around Pelican Town. The two are probably some of the smartest villagers in Stardew Valley.

What is Maru’s Schedule?

She usually spends time with her father at their home laboratory or tinkering with things in her bedroom. Of course, tinkering with gadgets and inventing robots doesn’t finance itself. She has a job working as a nurse at Harvey’s clinic. She works there on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:20 AM to 4:45 PM.

Here’s her detailed seasonal schedule, alongside some deviations:

What are the best gifts to give Maru?

The community of Stardew Valley has one thing in common— they love receiving gifts! Just because Maru spends her time examining samples under the microscope or observing the heavens with her telescope doesn’t exempt her from loving presents. Her hobby needs a lot of materials like metal bars, which she values, especially when given.

With all the people you meet in Stardew Valley, they have an empty ten-heart bar you can fill up once you’ve gotten to know them better and even start to like each other. There are two main ways you can do it: (1) talk to them every day and (2) give them a maximum of two gifts every week.

Each gift varies on the number of friendship points depending on whether they like, love, are neutral about, dislike, or hate the item you’ve given. Birthday gifts will have an (x8) multiplier, and Feast of the Winter Star gifts will have a (x5) multiplier on friendship points.

It is surprisingly easy to remember what Maru likes and loves. She usually appreciates gifts that contribute to her hobbies like meta bars and batteries and she also loves getting yummy snacks for her to munch on while she’s working! Check out these detailed tables of Maru’s gift preferences:

Inviting a villager to a movie they love will gain you 200 friendship points, 100 friendship points with one they like, and no points for one they dislike. Be sure to check out what’s showing every so often! Movies change based on the seasons and when you unlock the theater, so try to take them when their favorite is showing.

Like the movies, the snacks at the concession counter randomly rotate. Giving a villager a snack they love will earn you 50 friendship points, 25 friendship points for one they like, and no points for one they dislike. As long as you steer clear of something they don’t like, you’re good!

Heart Events

Befriending a villager by talking to them and giving them presents they like results in an increase in your friendship level with them. You get to trigger special heart events or cutscene with Maru every time you reach two more hearts with her.

No. Of HeartsHeart Event
2Go to the Carpenter’s shop on a day that Maru is in.

You’ll find her and her father, Demetrius, experimenting with soil samples. Maru asks you to watch over a beaker while she goes to get more samples to test. After she’s gone, Demetrius turns to you and tells you that she’s his “special little girl” and he hints that he doesn’t want you getting in the way of her bright future.

When she comes back to the lab, he says that you were merely talking about the scientific tests. You can:
• You say nothing and you all go back to testing the soil varieties.
• You tell Maru that her dad was being weird. She asks and he admits the truth about what he said. He apologizes to you after.

The first option will give you an additional ten friendship points with Demetrius, while the second choice will subtract one hundred points.
4Go inside Harvey’s clinic when Maru is working.

Your entrance surprises Maru and she accidentally drops the glass beaker she was holding. Anxious about Harvey’s reaction, she asks you what she should do about it:

• You tell her to just clean it off the floor and he won’t be able to see that something happened. (She insists that he can absolutely tell the difference and comes clean to Harvey in the end.)
• You tell her to put on the blame on you. (Harvey ends up finding out it was Maru and is very disappointed in her)
• You advise her to tell the truth about the accident. (Harvey appreciates that she told the truth and reassures her that she doesn’t have to worry. He even tells her how much he’s thankful for how much help she’s been in the clinic)

The first option will subtract fifty friendship points with Maru, while the second option will subtract twenty points. The last choice will add fifty points to your friendship meter with Maru.
6Go to the Mountain on a clear sunny day anytime from 9 PM and 11:40 PM.

You’ll find Maru using her telescope and she’s shocked to find you out and about at this time. She wants to show you something. You look through the telescope and she asks you what you see.

You may respond in two ways:
• You tell her that you see a beautiful planet. (She agrees that it’s truly amazing.)
• You say that you only see a cold dark empty ayss. (She reluctantly agrees with you.)

The first option will add fifty friendship points while the second option will subtract fifty points from your friendship bar with Maru.

Maru then reflects that the both of you will both be gone by the time the stars will be visited. She starts to tell you something but changes her mind last minute. You exit the cutscene thinking that it was a beautiful night that you spent with her.
8Go inside the Carpenter’s shop when Maru is also inside.

You’ll find Maru working on a big secret project. She shows you a machine that seems to be a single component. She instructs you to place your hand on the contraption for a second and it electrocutes you.

Maru is shocked and apologizes to you. She also applies some burn cream on your hand. You may respond in two ways:
• You tell her your hand is okay and that it doesn’t hurt.
• You tell her she better be sorry and that it hurts really bad.

The first choice will add thirty friendship points with Maru while the second will subtract fifty points from your friendship meter with her. Either response will result in Maru sighing that the moment is ruined.
10Go to the Carpenter’s shop when Maru is also inside.

Maru, finished with her big project, leads you to her workshop. She built a robot to help her parents named MarILDA, which means Maru’s Interactive Laboratory Device Alpha. She’s been working on this for so long and wanted you to be there when she activates it. The robot activates and greets Maru with a smart aleck reply.

Demetrius interrupts to see what you’re up to with his daughter. He sees the robot and is scared. Maru tells him not to be frightened and that she made MarILDA to help him. He is upset and says he thought she was fooling around with you, not inventing artificial intelligence.

MarILDA joins the conversation, apologizes to Maru, and tells her that she has been mulling over her own existence. The robot asks for her freedom so she can search for other creatures like her.

Maru is understandably shocked by this and Demetrius immediately agrees. Her father tells her that he’s come to terms with her living her own life in the future and that he and her mother will be just fine. He acknowledges your part and thanks you for Maru becoming so happy and focused recently.

Maru leads MarILDA outside and watches her go to space. She turns to you and asks you what you think about the whole thing.

You may respond in four ways:
• You tell her you’re impressed with her creations. (She thanks you.)
• You tell her you’re disappointed and that she should’ve kept the robot as a slave. (She thinks that’s cold and maybe you have a good reason for saying that.)
– You say that the robot was just a pieace of machinery made to act human.
– You say you were just joking and that MarILDA did deserve her freedom.
(She sees your point for both responses and thanks you for stopping by.)
• You clarify if her dad is alright with the two of you now.
• You just look at her and say nothing.

The first response will gain you fifty points while the second will deduct you fifty points. You can get fifty points back with any of the explanations after the second option. Both of the last two choices have no effect on friendship with Maru.
Group
10-Heart Event
The Group 10-Heart Event triggers after you’ve given all the bachelorettes a bouquet, gained 10 hearts, and experienced the 10-heart events with them.

If you gave Haley the last bouquet, you’ll trigger a cutscene at 2 Willow Lane, wherein all the bachelorettes are together and very angry at you.

Make sure to have a Rabbit’s Foot with you to prevent them from finding out that you’re dating all of them. They’ll get mad at you and ignore you for the whole week. Also, they won’t accept any gifts from you anymore.

Note: this won’t occur if you’ve already offered someone the pendant or got married before.
14
(Part I)
Go inside your farmhouse from 6:10 AM and 5 PM on any day except Sunday or Winter.

Maru welcomes you home and tells you about a special astronomical event that will happen the next night. She asks if you could watch it with her and to meet her in the mountains tomorrow night.

The cutscene will not happen if it is raining.
14
(Part II)
Go to the Mountains from 10:00 PM and 1:00 AM on a sunny day.

You stand with Maru by the telescope as she fondly remembers the last time you looked at the stars together. A scene of a comet flying by plays. She tells you that it’s tradition to make a wish after looking at a comet.

You may respond in three ways:
• You tell her you wish for a new baby.
• You say you wish to grow old together.
• You express you wish for more money.

All responses will have no effect on your relationship with Maru.

Marriage

After offering the Mermaid’s Pendant and having your wedding, Maru moves into the farmhouse. She’ll have her spouse room beside the bedroom, and she’ll have a dedicated area for her tinkering and inventing in the lot behind the shipping bin.

Once married, your spouse may give you gifts. Her small presents differ depending on the day, but here’s a table of what she may give you:

Quests

Maru shows up with quests sometimes and she may on occasion appear on the “Help Wanted” board. Fulfilling the request gives you 150 Friendship Points and some gold worth 3x the item’s base price.

She’s an incredibly intelligent and special girl. Ultimately, this is a full and comprehensive guide to her schedule, gift preferences, favorite movies, snacks, heart events, and marriage.
