Stardew Valley Train: Full Guide to Trains

There are loads of things in this peaceful game. The Stardew Valley train is one important feature in the game, so learning everything about it will be very useful for your game progression. Let’s dive into all information you need to know!

What are Stardew Valley Trains?

The trains in Stardew Valley are sadly not for travelling. I know, it would be really incredible if you could hop on a train and save some travelling time, but these trains have a different use. The trains in Stardew Valley carry many different kinds of items, so they are quite important. We will tell you about all the items they include and where you can find the trains.

Where are the Trains?

Stardew Valley trains can be found in the Railroad. If you’re not sure where that is, we will tell you how to get there:

Firstly, you must have had an earthquake occur in the game. If an earthquake has not occurred yet, you won’t have access to the Railroad. The earthquake occurs on the 3rd day of Summer in the first year, so if you are a new player, you may have some waiting to do as this is the only way the path to the Railroad will be unblocked. However, if the earthquake has already occurred taken place in your game, you can move onto the next step.

Secondly, you must travel north of the Mountain. If you’re still unable to find it, you can check the map. It will be the furthest north area and you will be able to see a little train track. Cute, right? Once you reach there, you will see a train track. Trains don’t pass by constantly, so let’s tell you when you can see them!

When do the Trains Pass by?

Stardew Valley Trains pass on the track on random days between 9 am and 6 pm. Since they don’t come every day you should always make sure to visit the Railroad on days they do. If you’re not in the Railroad area, you will receive a notification stating that “a train is passing through Stardew Valley”. Another way to know if a train is passing by is through hearing a whistling noise. Any time you receive this notification or hear the whistling noise, head straight to the Railroad so that you don’t miss out on anything.

What is the Purpose of Stardew Valley Trains?

As aforementioned, they are really useful. This is because they drop items when they pass by. They can drop Geodes, Coal, Iron Ores, Leprechaun Shoes and Stone. See, you wouldn’t want to miss out! Trains can save you a ton of time as you may not need to forage for items you are looking for. However, if you’re unlucky they may not drop anything when they pass by.

There are several different types of a Stardew Valley train, so let’s go through all of them:

  • Red train – this train only passes by in the Winter and contains wonderful presents!
  • Normal resource train – this one is really fast as it travels at twice the speed of other ones.
  • Blue train – this train also travels twice as fast but it has barred windows.
  • Passenger train – this train only has passenger cars.
  • Dark grey train – this one has Joja logos on it and is owned by them.

Things not to do on the Train Tracks

Now, the trains can be dangerous, so don’t do anything silly. You should not stand in front of a passing train as you will suffer damage. The same thing will occur if you attack the train with tools or weapons but you will also get knocked back. If you get stuck between the train that is passing by and the platform, you will constantly lose health and pass out. Consequently, you should always be sensible and careful around passing trains.

Conclusion

In conclusion, trains are a great way to get resources without spending a lot of time foraging for them. Since the trains do not pass every day, you should always go to the train track on days that they do. If you don’t have access to the Railroad yet, stay patient and make sure to check out the area as soon as an earthquake occurs.
