Stardew Valley cross-platform „farming“ is something most of the fans dream of. Can we expect that the game, which is constantly evolving, finally make cross-play possible?
Stardew Valley Cross-Platform 1.5 update
The massive Stardew Valley 1.5 update was an incredibly refreshing experience for all SDV fans. This update brought so many novelties. Players can now explore new locations, events, minigames, puzzles, and quests. The expansion brought excitement and new layers to the story.
Therefore, after these updates, the cross-platform seemed like the next logical thing to develop.
However, even after the 1.5 update, you can’t play Stardew Valley between any of the systems the game is currently available on. More precisely, when you team up with your friends to play SDV, ensure that each of you is playing on the same console (Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Series X, etc).
Also, keep in mind that the host of the game saves the game locally. Therefore, any other player, so-called farmhand, won’t be able to play, unless the host is present.
Furthermore, cross-save is still not an option. For example, if you have played Stardew Valley on your PS4, you won’t be able to pick up where you left off on a Nintendo Switch.
Stardew Valley Cross-Platform PC
Although the cross-platform multiplayer option is not available on consoles, for PCs situation is a bit different. The Steam and GOG players can enjoy exploring the world of Stardew Valley together, no matter which PC system they are using.
Stardew Valley Cross-Platform future
Right now there is no indication that the cross-play will become available for Stardew Valley. There is still not enough buzz made on social media to get things going. According to a developer that is working on Stardew Valley, technical barriers are still way too high to overcome. However, there is an undeniable wish to make cross-play possible sometimes in the future.
Even though this has been said in 2018, there hasn’t been any new information regarding actual execution. With that being said, it seems that full cross-platform support for Stardew Valley isn’t coming anytime soon.
However, there is no reason to be sad about it. As you know, a multiplayer option exists. So, if you wish to share the world of Stardew Valley with your friends, you can still do it.
