Description
A scorpion carp is a type of fish that is obtainable through Fishing. It is a brown-colored fish with red fins and can range in size between 12 and 32 inches in length.
Though it’s not a Legendary Fish, scorpion carp are the only fish to require a certain fishing level before you can catch them. They are quite difficult to reel in and it’s best to prepare before you go out trying to catch them.
Where to find a scorpion carp
To catch scorpion carp, you can fish during any season or weather, during the hours of 6 AM and 8 PM in the Calico Desert. The Desert is located outside of Pelican Town, and is only accessible through taking the Bus once it has been repaired. You can repair the Bus by either buying the “Bus Repair” community development form at JojaMart or by completing the Vault Bundles at the Community Center.
There are more ways to obtain a scorpion carp than just through fishing though. You can find them inside garbage cans throughout Pelican Town after the Desert is unlocked. They can also be bought at the Traveling Cart for 450-1,000 gold each.
How to catch a scorpion carp
Before you can catch the scorpion carp you at least have to have a level four fishing level, either naturally or by using fishing buffs. After all the base level conditions are met, there’s still only a 20% chance maximum of hooking this fish. If you have a higher fishing skill, then the chance will go up though.
Since scorpion carp can be difficult to find and catch, it’s a good idea to maximize your chances of successfully reeling them in the first time around. To do this, you should use the Iridium fishing pole, bait, and trap bobbers.
What to do with a scorpion carp
Scorpion carp can be used for one bundle in the Community Center: The Master Fisher’s bundle in the Fish Tank. The Community Center is located directly north of Pierre’s General Store. The reward for completing this bundle is one portion of Dish O’ The Sea, which is an especially good dish because it buffs your fishing skill (+3).
No villagers love or like this fish. But, Demetrius, Elliot, Leo, Linus, Pam, Sebastian, and Willy are all neutral to receiving a scorpion carp as a gift. Everyone else in Stardew Valley either dislikes it or hates it.
There are is one quest where a scorpion carp will be needed. There is a chance of scorpion carp being requested randomly after unlocking the desert on the Help Wanted board. This board is located on the front of Pierre’s General Store, next to the calendar. Completing this request gives 450 gold and 150 friendship points.
Scorpion carp can be sold at a base price of 150g, 187g for the silver quality, and 225g for the gold quality. When consumed, you will receive a boost of -125 energy, and 0 health.
Crafting
It can be crafted into three basic recipes: Maki Roll, Quality Fertilizer, and Sashimi. Though, all of these recipes can be crafted using any fish in the game; and it is important to note that Sashimi sells for significantly less than the cost of just the actual fish.
Scorpion carp are also used in making the fishing hat with the sewing machine, and as orange dye in the dye pots inside Emily and Haley’s house.
Fishing
When Scorpion Carp are put into a fish pond, they produce not only roe but cactus seeds at a population of 10 fish.
