Midnight Carp (M.C.) – have you caught this shy swimmer that appears alongside the moon? It doesn’t appear at 12am, but we’ll teach everything about this fish in this guide!
Even when the sun’s down, many players in Stardew Valley will continue fishing for extra profit. That’s because more diverse types will come out regardless of your location.
Here’s a beautiful sea creature to lure in: M.C. You’ll always see them enjoying their freedom where sunshine is sleeping at night. We’ll teach you about the fish, where to catch them, and their in-game uses in this guide.
What is a Midnight Carp?
This shy fish is the most comfortable at night and is ready for your Iridium Fishing Rod. Its growth ranges from 12-53 inches and has a difficulty and behavior of 55, mixed. Here’s the table of the fish’s restoration effects:
Quality | Energy | Health |
Normal | +50 | +22 |
Silver | +70 | +31 |
Gold | +90 | +40 |
Iridium | +130 | +58 |
Where to Catch a Midnight Carp?
Using a Magic Bait, it’s possible to lure this sea creature regardless of time, season, and weather. However, it’s expensive to make, so we suggest sticking with conventional methods for this valuable item. Here are the places to catch them:
Location | Season | Time | Weather |
Cindersap Forest Pond | • Fall • Winter | • 10pm – 2am | Any |
Non-Standard Farm Maps (Forest, Riverland, Wilderness, and Four Corners) | • Fall • Winter | • 10pm – 2am | Any |
Ginger Island (North and West) | • Fall • Winter | • 10pm – 2am | Any |
Mountain Lake | • Fall • Winter | • 10pm – 2am | Any |
Another merchant sells it for a higher price but removes the hassle for you:
- Traveling Cart – costs 450g-1000g.
Fish Pond
This exotic catch reproduces once every four days (a slightly longer time versus low-selling fishes) until it reaches the pond’s limit. But like other setups, item quests and fish products appear eventually.
Item Requests
Spoiler: M.C. is one of the easiest fish to maintain for seasoned Stardew Valley players. However, some items you’ll need are only available from geodes. The following are every material you’ll need for capacity expansion:
Initial Capacity | Item Requested | Fishing XP | Improved Capacity |
Three | • Bug Meat (10) • Clay (2-3) • Green Algae (2-3) • Slime (5) | +40 | Five |
Five | • Common Mushroom (2-3) • Earth Crystal (1-2) • Limestone (1) | +40 | Seven |
Seven | • Mudstone (1) • Snail (1) • Wild Bait (5) | +40 | Ten |
Loots
Four days and tons of loots seem unfavorable because Roe is the only drop you’ll get. Not to mention the 90% chance of guaranteed production, instead of the full 100% since it’s already at max population.
Item | Population | Item Percentage | Chance | Fishing XP |
Roe (1) | 1-10 | 90% | 21-86% | +14 |
Selling Prices
M.C. sells higher despite its low fishing difficulty and behavior. However, it isn’t that much versus the effort in maintaining the Fish Pond. Its eggs are also available as Aged Roe by loading them into the Preserves Jar.

Midnight Carp sells more decently than other common fishes such as Sunfish, Smallmouth Bass, and Herring. But if you want to turn your 150g into a Quality Fertilizer for a better selling price for your crops, here’s the recipe:

Quality Fertilizer | Level 9 Farming | • Midnight Carp (1) • Sap (2) |
Cooking
Aside from common dishes in Stardew Valley, you can also make a Seafoam Pudding – the most potent fishing item. Although this shy swimmer has low selling value, cooking is its primary advantage. Here are all recipes:

Tailoring
While you can’t create something useful at the spool of the Sewing Machine, you can turn the item into a purple dye at Dye Pots. But profit-wise, you may want to throw it into the Shipping Bin or use it as a cooking ingredient.
Gifting
Demetrius, Elliott, Leo, Linus, Pam, Sebastian, and Willy feels neutral in receiving this midnight gift. Evelyn, Haley, and Pierre will always hate you for giving this slimy catch. The rest of the villagers wouldn’t like it either.
Quests
Here are the following missions you can complete in Stardew Valley:
- Help Wanted at Pierre’s General Store. During Fall, someone will request a piece for 450g and 150 Friendship points.
- Aquatic Overpopulation. Demetrius will order ten pieces for the same market value and a Farm Computer recipe.
Bundles
No worries about consuming the Midnight Carp on one of the most demanding parts in Stardew Valley. The Community Center doesn’t require you the item, so it’s better to stick with selling Seafoam Pudding.
