Description

A lingcod is a type of fish that is obtainable through Fishing. It is a brown-colored fish that can range in size between 30 and 51 inches in length.

Lingcod can be rather hard to catch with a difficulty score of 85.

Where to find a lingcod

Lingcod can be caught in two different locations: in the River, and in the Mountain Lake. In both of these locations, lingcod can only be found in the winter season, during any time and weather.

The river runs from the Cindersap Forest (in the bottom left corner of the map) along the south side of Pelican Town toward the ocean. On the very opposite side of the map is the Mountain Lake. It is located in the upper righthand corner of the map, north of Pelican Town, and east of Linus’ camp.

The only way to catch a lingcod outside of winter is through the use of magic bait.

There are more ways to obtain a lingcod than just through fishing though. You can buy them at the Traveling Cart for 360-1,000 gold each and from Krobus’ shop on Wednesdays for 200 gold.

How to catch a lingcod

Since lingcod can be difficult to catch, it’s a good idea to maximize your chances of successfully reeling them in the first time around. To do this, you should use the Iridium fishing pole, bait, and trap bobbers.

What to do with a lingcod

Lingcod are not used in any bundles.

No villagers love getting it as a gift and only one villager likes getting it as a gift (Willy). Meanwhile, Demetrius, Elliot, Leo, Linus, Pam, and Sebastian are all neutral to receiving a lingcod as a gift. Everyone else in Stardew Valley either dislikes it or hates it.

There are a few quests where a lingcod will be needed.

In the second year, on the 13th of winter, Willy will ask you for a lingcod through the mail for the “Catch a Lingcod” quest. You can use a lingcod caught before the quest was taken on. Completing this quest gives 550 gold and 1 whole friendship heart.

Also, in the winter, Demetrius may ask for 10 lingcod on the special orders board for both the farm computer recipe and the gold equivalent of selling the fish. His request is due to aquatic overpopulation. The special orders board can be found directly south of the Mayor’s manor.

It can be sold at a base price of 120g, 150g for the silver quality, and 180g for the gold quality. When consumed, you will receive a boost of 25 energy, and 11 health.

Crafting

It can be crafted into three basic recipes: Maki Roll, Quality Fertilizer, and Sashimi. Though, all of these recipes can be crafted using any fish in the game; and it is important to note that Sashimi sells for significantly less than the cost of just the actual fish.

Lingcod are also used in making the fishing vest with the sewing machine, and as orange dye in the dye pots inside Emily and Haley’s house.

Farming

When lingcod are put into a fish pond they produce not only roe but bug meat as well starting at a population of 9 lingcod.
