Hello farmer! Have you been looking to get to know Pelican Town’s most fashionable It Girl, Haley? If you’ve been wanting to develop a friendship or start a relationship with this girl then keep reading to get to know Haley— her hobbies, dreams, likes, and dislikes!
Stardew Valley isn’t just seasons and seasons of toiling over your crops, hardcore mining and collecting rare artifacts, and endless days of fishing for treasure. Stardew Valley has a more charming and interesting side. It’s slowly getting to know the townspeople, celebrating the fun and festive events with them, and developing lasting relationships that may even end in marriage! Yes, that’s right! You’re not only limited to being friends with the people in Pelican Town. There are a bunch of bachelors and bachelorettes that you can marry after gaining a certain number of hearts with them. But before we get into that…
Who is Haley?
Haley is arguably one of the most popular bachelorettes in Stardew Valley. In fact, she’s often debated by many as either the best or the worst of the marriageable candidates in Pelican Town. Before we get into her pros and cons, let’s talk about who exactly is Haley.
She is a villager that currently lives in Pelican Town, most commonly characterized by her blonde wavy hair and baby blue eyes. She is often seen around town wearing a blue top with a pink skirt.
Haley lives at 2 Willow Lane with her sister, Emily. She has a complicated relationship with her sister because of their stark differences in interests and perspectives in life. Although they don’t get along super well, they still take care of their home together while their parents have been traveling for two years.
She is friends with Alex and is often seen hanging out with him day to day and especially during seasonal events. If you view them at a surface level, they both represent the common archetypes of the golden girl and popular jock; however, a deeper look into both characters just might reveal some hidden qualities you might not expect.
Get to know: Haley from Stardew Valley
*WARNING! Spoilers ahead! If you want to get to know Haley organically, skip ahead.
Pelican Town is a pretty small town and most of the residents dream of a very different life away from Stardew Valley. Haley is certainly no exception to this. She was always wealthy growing up and was a very popular girl in high school which could explain her desire for something more than a sleepy little place like Stardew Valley. Her interests lie in fashion, makeup, and photography. She often comments on her own style and her fervent desire to go shopping, which is often followed by complaints about the lack of malls near her.
“There are only two things I like about this town. One of them is the beach. The other one is a secret! giggle“
-Haley
Haley is pretty fond of the beach and the warm summer season. In fact, the wallpaper in her room depicts a beach shoreline with sailboats in the distance framed by palm trees. Aside from shopping in the city, her hobbies include picking seashells and swimming on the beach. She also likes to lighten her hair and tan her skin with the sun.
She dreams of moving somewhere warmer than Stardew Valley, probably a beach. In my opinion, if you’re looking to marry Haley in a new playthrough you should try out the Beach Farm. It’ll be a dream come true for her!
Haley: Likes and Dislikes
The love language of the people living in Stardew Valley is quite unsurprisingly— receiving gifts! Honestly, giving gifts to the townspeople will not be a hardship for any farmer in the valley. There are free flowers or fruits to pick off the ground at any given time and after seasons of mining and farming, you surely have valuable gift-worthy gems and artisan goods laying around the farmhouse.
With all the people you meet in Stardew Valley, they have an empty (at first) ten-heart bar you can fill up once you’ve gotten to know them better and even start to like each other. There are two main ways you can get to know villagers: (1) talk to them every day and (2) give them a maximum of two gifts every week. Each gift varies on the number of friendship points depending on whether the villager likes, loves, is neutral about, dislikes, or hates the item you’ve given them. Birthday gifts will also have eight times the effect on your friendship points so be sure to give them a loved gift then.

Haley is thankfully one of the easiest villagers to get to know in Pelican Town. Her birthday is on the 14th day of Spring. One of her liked gifts is a Daffodil, which you can find foraging during Spring pretty easily and in great quantities during the season. You can always find her by the fountain near the Community Center, taking photos at the river by Marnie’s Ranch, hanging out with Alex at the ice cream stand, or at the beach. Talking to her every day and giving her daffodils during early spring and especially on her birthday might just be enough to get you to four hearts with Haley by the time the Flower Dance rolls around!
Aside from Daffodils, Haley enjoys receiving gifts that are Universally Liked by the people of Stardew Valley. These Universal Likes include: (1) all Artisan Goods (except for Oil and Void Mayonnaise), (2) all Cooking (except Fried Egg, Bread, Pink Cake, and Fruit Salad, etc), (3) all Flowers (except Poppy and Sunflower), (4) all Foraged Minerals (except Quartz), (5) all Fruit Tree Fruits (except for Banana and Mango), (6) all Gems (except Prismatic Shard), (6) Life Elixir, and (7) Maple Syrup. Giving Haley any of these will result in the gain of around 45-360 friendship points depending on the quality and occasion.
Owing to her great love for all things beachy and sunny, Haley loves Coconuts, Fruit Salads, and Sunflowers. Giving her these gifts will normally give you around 80 friendship points. The easiest of these to acquire is the Sunflower. You can buy Sunflower seeds from Pierre or Jojamart during the summer and fall seasons; however, I would recommend buying them from Jojamart because they are weirdly 75 gold cheaper there. You don’t have to buy a large number of seeds, thankfully, since Sunflowers drop 0-2 Sunflower seeds once harvested. Planting some in the summer and continually harvesting and planting through to fall will hopefully give you enough Sunflowers to gift Haley twice a week!
*WARNING: Spoilers ahead for first-time players!
Coconuts are slightly more difficult to acquire since it involves going to the Calico Desert. You can access the desert by repairing the Bus at the Bus Stop which you can achieve by either completing the Vault Bundles in the Community Center or by purchasing the Bus Repair from the Joja Community Development Form. Once you get to the Calico Desert, there should be Coconuts just lying on the ground. You can also buy them from Sandy at the Oasis. Aside from foraging in the desert, you can also find Coconuts by shaking the palm trees on Ginger Island. After repairing the boat in the backroom of Willy’s fish shop, you can access the island.
Pink Cake and Fruit Salad are food items that you can usually acquire by cooking them in your farmhouse kitchen; however Pink Cake can also be acquired by: (1) getting one as a gift during the Feast of the Winter Star; (2) buying from Krobus or the Saloon’s rotating stock; (3) completing the Chef’s Bundle on the Bulletin Board of the Community Center; (4) killing a Big Slime; and lastly (5) using the Statue of Endless Fortune on certain days. If your farmer is a male, you can get a Pink Cake from your Mom in the mail after earning 120,000 gold.
Haley would also appreciate receiving any item that is Universally Loved in Stardew Valley. These are usually highly rare and very valuable items like the Golden Pumpkin, Magic Rock Candy, Pearl, and Rabbit’s Foot that most of the people in Stardew Valley absolutely love. Giving her any of these items will result in a gain of 80-640 friendship points depending on the occasion or quality of the gift. Technically, Prismatic Shards are one of the Universal Loves but Haley hates them for some reason.
“Ugh…that’s such a stupid gift.”
-Haley when receiving a Disliked Gift
Haley, to no one’s surprise, is extremely vocal about what she likes and doesn’t like. She generally doesn’t enjoy being dirty so it’s not a stretch that she dislikes getting foraged items as gifts. She also doesn’t like all Vegetables (except Hops, Tea Leaves, and Wheat), all Fruits (except Coconuts of course), all Milk, all Eggs, and all Universal Dislikes (which includes building materials, artifacts, bombs, fertilizer, seeds, etc). It’s extremely hard to memorize every villagers likes and dislikes so be sure to always have a guide like this saved when playing.
Stardew Valley actually has a pretty cool way of giving you information and keeping track of which gifts villagers like or not. When you open your Social Tab in your inventory you can click on each villager’s Gift Log and see a record of gifts you’ve given them and the villager’s preferences. Talking to villagers and reading Secret Notes can also greatly help you in finding out who likes or dislikes what and sometimes even why. One such Secret Note is a letter from Emily and Haley’s parents enumerating some of the girl’s favorite gifts.

If you’ve been wanting to befriend Haley or get into a relationship with her, you should really avoid giving her anything she dislikes or hates, like Clay or a Prismatic Shard. Better save your ultra rare Prismatic Shards for more important purposes. Giving villagers a disliked or hated gift can result in a loss of around 20-320 friendship points depending on the quality and occasion. Additionally, Universal Hates include: (1) all Bait, (2) all Fossils, (3) all Monster Loot (except Solar Essence and Void Essence), and (4) all Trash (except Driftwood), etc.
Getting to know a villager by talking to them and giving them gifts regularly will result in an increase in hearts in your friendship bar or heart meter with them. You get a special heart event or cutscene with Haley every time you reach two more hearts with her. I won’t give anything away but these special heart events will really help you understand these characters more and find out things you might never have before.
There you have it, farmer! These are Haley’s Likes and Dislikes. She’s one of the more interesting villagers to get to know in Stardew Valley, so I hope you give her a chance. Befriending Haley shouldn’t be so hard after all!! Talk to her when you see her or make special trips if you want and be sure to give her at max two gifts that she likes or loves every week. Happy playing!
