How Does Pregnancy Work in Stardew Valley?

When it comes to making this game even more interesting, players are often wondering about pregnancy in Stardew Valley. Is it possible to have a child in the game? How does it all work? How fast is the process?

These questions and more will be answered in this guide about expanding your family. Of course, there are different ways to have a child in this game. For example, there is also the possibility of adopting.

Let’s take a look at all options below.

How To Have a Biological Pregnancy in Stardew Valley

If you choose to have a child of your own, then here’s what you will have to do.

First of all, you need to find a possible spouse and have a 10-heart relationship with them. After that, don’t forget to build a small cute nursery and wait until the game asks you if you want to have a child.

Just keep in mind that this only happens when you have been married for more than a week.

If you choose to have a child, the pregnancy will take 2 weeks. Once that time passes, you will find the child in the nursery.

The child itself will spend 2 more weeks just sleeping and growing, so it will only start doing something later in the game. They usually crawl for 4 more weeks, and then become a toddler. Fun fact, the child will be a toddler for the rest of the game.

Adopting a Child in Stardew Valley

If you choose to avoid pregnancy in Stardew Valley, then there is one more option. You can adopt! To do so, the process is quite similar. You will need a spouse and a 10-heart event. Once everything is taken care of, you will be asked if you want to adopt.

The whole process will also take 2 weeks. Once that time has passed, you will get the child at some point in the night.

How Many Kids Can You Have in Stardew Valley?

When it comes to kids, there is a limit.

You can only have two kids in the game. It’s quite interesting that your first born’s gender is absolutely random, but the second one’s is the opposite. Meaning, if you have a girl first, then your second child will be a boy.

It’s not that difficult to raise even two kids. Your spouse will help you in the game, so you don’t have to take care of everything yourself. For example, they can take the kids to various events and spend time with them there.

What If You Change Your Mind?

Sometimes your might just decide that your character shouldn’t have kids in Stardew Valley. That’s not a problem! There is a way to change how many kids you have with you at the farm.

First things first, you will have to use the Dark Shrine of Selfishness (yes, the name is not the nicest, but hey), and it can be found inside the Witch’s Hut in Stardew Valley. Don’t forget to check if you have a prismatic shard with you because you will need it for the process. Once you decide what you want to do, everything changes very quickly, so don’t worry, you won’t have to wait two weeks until your kids turn into birds.

Once you offer the shard, the kids will becomes doves and you won’t see them again. Just keep in mind that you can’t reverse this decision once it has been done. You will have to follow the same process again if you will decide that you want to have a kid in Stardew Valley.

This can be a great solution if you see that you don’t have enough time to interact with the kids, and it makes the game less enjoyable.

Stardew Valley Pregnancy in Multiplayer

Can you have a child when using the multiplayer mode? Turns out that you can! If the main player agrees, there can be a new child on the farm quite soon!

The same rules apply as mentioned above, so feel free to note down some more specific aspects of having a child in Stardew Valley.

Here you go! Now you are more than prepared to expand your family in the game, and make the game even more interesting!
