How to Get a Dog or a Cat in Stardew Valley?

The “dog or cat” debate doesn’t happen only in real life because you can make this choice even in Stardew Valley! Yes, the game allows you to get a pet and get very creative with names.

If you have a strong preference when it comes to animals, don’t be afraid, you get to choose it at the beginning of the game. The cat or dog adoption process is based on what you had chosen when you were creating your profile. A few different breeds or “styles” of animals are presented to you, and you can choose whichever one suits you best.

How to Get Your Dog or Cat

The main rule for adopting an animal is that you have earned 1k Gold in the game. Once you have that, Marnie will come over to your house with your pet on a sunny Wednesday or Friday morning in Spring. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you have to adopt it, but it’s a lovely opportunity, so why not?

However, keep in mind that you’ll have to wake up quite early on that day! If you want to see Marnie with your pet, go outside between 6 am and 9.30 am

The process is as simple as that. Once you reach 1000 friendship points, the game will let you know that your pet loves you.

Time for Food

Here’s the easy part. You don’t really have to feed your pet in Stardew Valley. However, the animal does have a water bowl on the left side of your house, so keep that full. This can also be beneficial for increasing your friendship.

P.S if it’s a rainy day, the water bowl will be filled automatically, so no need to worry about it.

Is It Possible to Have More Cats and Dogs in Stardew Valley?

If you’re a fan of having more animals, don’t be afraid. Yes, there is an option. There is an option to have more pets if you use a game mod. This way, you can still choose from a few different breeds, so you have plenty of choices, and it’s also adorable that the pets stay in your house on rainy days.
