You may have noticed a large raccoon – the Trash Bear – sitting near the sewers in the Cindersap Forest. Wondering what their deal is? Read on to find out!
What Is The stardew valley raccoon Called?
This large raccoon is actually called the “Trash Bear,” and they are a new addition to the Cindersap Forest starting from Year Three. They require a few items from you and then they’ll offer you a hefty reward.
Where is the stardew valley Trash Bear?
The Raccoon is located in the southernmost region of the Cindersap Forest, very close to where you originally found Robin’s Lost Axe in the First Year. Below is a quick tutorial on finding the Trash Bear, starting from Leah’s Cottage, just below Marnie’s Ranch.
The Trash Bear will only be here starting from Spring 1 Year Three, and only if it’s not raining. The Trash Bear won’t be here if it’s raining or snowing. Come back when it’s sunny and you’ll be able to greet him!
What does the raccoon want?
The Trash Bear requires four items from you before they award you with a prize. They will request two seasonal fish or forageables, and then two cooked dishes. So, for example, in Spring, he may ask for a Herring and Dandelion; and in Summer, he might ask for an Eel and a Sweet Pea. After that, for example, he may ask for a Blueberry Tart and a Pizza.

Food Requests
After providing the Trash Bear with two forageables or fish, they will request two cooked dishes. These are entirely random and it’s possible that you won’t be able to grow the necessary ingredients during the season you’re in. For example, the Trash Bear can ask for Spaghetti, which requires Tomato and Wheat Flour, even if it’s not Summer and you have no way of growing Tomatoes right now.
Furthermore, the Trash Bear may ask for a dish you don’t have a recipe for. This can be quite frustrating, but luckily the Trash Bear is very patient. These quests won’t go away until you finish them, so you can take your time and do what needs to be done to learn how to cook their favorite dish.
Where to Get Recipes
There are two main ways for you to learn recipes:
- By befriending villagers: Most villagers will send you a unique recipe in the mail once you reach three and seven hearts of friendship with them. Some villagers don’t have any recipes to share, and others share more than just two recipes. For example, upon reaching three hearts with Gus, you’ll learn the recipe for Salmon Dinner; at seven, Cranberry Sauce.
⠀ - Watching The Queen of Sauce on TV: The Queen of Sauce is a TV channel that airs every Sunday. It teaches you one different recipe each week, up until the last week of Winter in Year 2. After that, they will air re-runs. If you forget to watch the show on Sunday, you can catch up the next Wednesday too! Most of the recipes from this TV show are unique and only be learned by watching, so if you miss out, you may need to wait a very long time before you can learn the recipe.
Where to Get Cooked Dishes
Aside from cooking up your own meals based on recipes you learn, you can also find readymade cooked dishes in various places in Stardew Valley:
- Stardrop Saloon: Gus’ establishment has a permanent and rotating stock of food. Gus will always sell Beer, Salad, Bread, Spaghetti, Pizza, and Coffee. Every day, he will also offer one random dish. You can visit the saloon every day (starting from 12:00 pm) and check to see if you get a dish that the Trash Bear wants.
⠀ - Krobus’ Shop: Krobus also offers a rotating stock of Cooked Dishes in his shop on Saturdays. These dishes will also be quite affordable, priced somewhere between 50 and 500 gold no matter which dish it is.
The Trash Bear’s Reward
After accomplishing their four tasks, you will get a cutscene in which the Trash Bear begins to play a pan flute. They will remove all the trash nearby as well as in Pelican Town, and upgrade Dusty’s Dog Pen to boot. All the changes are purely cosmetic, but they are welcome changes nonetheless!
