Mining is a pretty niche hobby. I mean, some people do it for a living, some are doing mining for profit. Speaking of which, miner and geologist professions are also part of the reasons while Stardew Valley isn’t just a farming simulator, as some might suggest.
There’s a valid reason why choosing between these jobs can change your overall gameplay. It’s necessary to understand where you’re comnig from, especially if you’re gonna be playing for a long time.
Some professions in Stardew Valley have their own pros and cons. Here, we’re gonna dissect as to which profession is the best for you: Miner or Geologist.

Stardew Valley Miner or Geologist 1.5 Update
With the new update from Patch 1.5, I’m sure you’re all excited to see what the update will bring to the table.
Well, from the changelog, it says gem nodes will now provide an additional experience points for the Mining skill. What’s more, it can also drop diamonds each time you see and mine one. What’s also interesting is that, nodes are no longer capped and limited by your own mining level.
Meaning, you’ll be able to mine more regardless of how far you are into the game.

Miners will generally get ahead on the early game. But as soon as you unlock the perks for the Geologist profession, you’ll see that in terms of consistency, Miner perks are better. But in terms of overall profit, Geologist might a little too ahead in the competition.
