Welcome to our post on the Stardew Valley walleye! Here you will learn how and where to catch a walleye in Stardew Valley!
A walleye is a type of fish that is obtainable through Fishing. It is a light brown-colored fish with a white belly. It can range in size between 10 and 41 inches in length. Though it isn’t that difficult to catch, walleyes have pretty strict time and weather restrictions and thus can be a little difficult to find.
Important Questions and Answers
Where to Catch a walleye
What is the best location?
Now that you are geared up and ready to hunt down a walleye, it is time to know when and where to go! They are freshwater fish that can be caught in four different locations. These are: in the river, the Mountain Lake, the Cindersap Forest Pond, and your own Farm Pond.
What is the best time to catch a walleye?
The location is not enough though, as you have to catch walleyes between 12 PM and 2 AM in either the fall season (on naturally rainy days) or in the winter season(if you have a rain totem). The only way to catch a walleye outside of these seasons, times, and weather is through the use of magic bait.
Where to find the rivers and lakes?
- The river runs from the Cindersap Forest (in the bottom left corner of the map) along the south side of Pelican Town toward the ocean.
- On the very opposite side of the map is Mountain Lake. It is located in the upper righthand corner of the map, north of Pelican Town, and east of Linus’ camp.
- The best location to catch a walleye is the Cindersap Forest Pond. If you are casting during rainy fall days, this is where you have a 32% chance of having a walleye on your line.
How to catch a walleye
- The best location to catch a walleye is the Cindersap Forest Pond, where if you are casting during rainy fall days you have a 32% chance of having a walleye on your line.
- Since walleyes can be difficult to find, it’s a good idea to maximize your chances of successfully reeling them the first time around. To do this, you should use the Iridium fishing pole, bait, and trap bobbers.
The best gear to catch a walleye
What is the recommended tackle?
The recommended tackle is either to use a spinner or a dressed spinner. Ideally, you should use a dressed spinner which reduces the maximum delay before a nibble by 7.5 seconds. Though this crafting recipe is not unlocked until fishing level 8 and requires 2 iron bars and a cloth to craft. You can buy dressed spinners but they cost 1,000 gold. Spinners are less costly to craft (2 iron bars) and buy (500 gold), but they only reduce the delay by 3.75 seconds.
What is the best bait?
The recommended bait is either wild bait or normal bait. Wild bait is more difficult to craft taking 10 pieces of fiber, 5 slimes, and 5 bug meat. Meanwhile, normal bait just takes one bug meat to craft. It is worth it to go with wild bait though, as not only does wild bait reduce the delay before a nibble by 62.5% but it also gives you a chance to catch two fish at once. Normal bait only reduces the delay by 50%.

What to do with a walleye
Walleyes can be used for two different bundles in the Community Center: The Night Fishing Bundle and the remixed Quality Fish Bundle in the Fish Tank. You need a gold quality walleye for the remixed Quality Fish Bundle.
The Community Center is located directly north of Pierre’s General Store. The reward for completing the Night Fishing Bundle is a small glow ring and the reward for the Quality Fish Bundle is one portion of Dish O’ The Sea, which is an especially good dish because it buffs your fishing skill (+3).
No villagers love or like this fish. Meanwhile, Demetrius, Elliot, Leo, Linus, Pam, Sebastian, and Willy are all neutral to receiving a walleye as a gift. Everyone else in Stardew Valley either dislikes it or hates it.
There is one quest where a walleye will be needed. There is a chance of a walleye being requested randomly during either the fall or winter seasons on the Help Wanted board. This board is located on the front of Pierre’s General Store, next to the calendar. Completing this request gives 315 gold and 150 friendship points.
It can be sold at a base price of 105g, 131g for the silver quality, and 157g for the gold quality. When consumed, you will receive a boost of 30 energy, and 13 health.
Crafting
It can be crafted into three basic recipes: Maki Roll, Quality Fertilizer, and Sashimi. Though, all of these recipes can be crafted using any fish in the game; and it is important to note that Sashimi sells for significantly less than the cost of just the actual fish.
Walleyes are also used in making the fishing vest with the sewing machine, and as yellow dye in the dye pots inside Emily and Haley’s house.
Farming
When walleyes are put into a fish pond they produce only roe, regardless of the population.
