Stardew Valley Expanded is one of the most popular mods in Stardew Valley that brings a lot of new content and changes to the game. In addition to adding some really cool new characters like Sophia and Victor, the mod also makes changes to the non-giftable NPC Bear.
The mod basically adds an entire new area, called “Forest West”, to the west of Cindersap Forest. This new addition is a big mazelike area with so many mystifying secrets waiting to be explored. As part of this expansion, the mod also expands on the Bear, who resides in Secret Woods.
In vanilla Stardew Valley, you can befriend the Bear by gifting them some scrumptious Maple Syrup. However, in Stardew Valley Expanded, this bear has a shop where you can purchase various items from.
Read on to find out all the changes the Stardew Valley Expanded mod makes to the Bear and how you can purchase different items from his shop.
How to Befriend the Bear in Stardew Valley?
The Stardew Valley Expanded mod makes the bear the owner of a shop from where you can purchase some really good ingredients for a new recipe, quest, or crafting. But you cannot shop at the Bear’s shop unless you befriend him.
To do so, you will first have to find and read the Secret Note #23. This note comes as a random drop from various sources, including Artifact Spots, Fishing, and Monster drops. This note will tell you to bring Maple Syrup for the Bear to the Forest West (Secret Woods) in Stardew Valley Expanded.
You can get the Maple Syrup by making use of a Tapper on a Maple Tree. Once you have the Maple Syrup, you can deliver it to the Bear’s cave any time. Doing so would unlock the Bear’s shop, from where you can purchase various items that are not available in all seasons.
Just like in vanilla Stardew Valley, getting the Maple Syrup to the bear will also trigger a cutscene. In this cutscene, the Bear will express their gratitude to you by imparting their special knowledge about the berries.
This knowledge will permanently increase the sale price of salmonberries and blackberries by 3x. However, the sale price of Artisan Goods made from these berries will remain unaffected. Bear’s Knowledge can be found in the wallet in your Menu, under the Skills tab.
Note: If you have a telephone and have obtained Bear’s Knowledge, the bear may call you on your phone.

What to Purchase from the Bear’s Shop in Stardew Valley?
The Bear’s shop has some really useful materials that you can use for the in-game crafting system, quests, and various recipes. Although most of these items are quite pricey, you can get these items if you are in a hurry.
Here is a list of all the items available at the Bear’s shop:
Item Name | Stock | Price | Usage |
Honey | 10 | 1,000 | Used in recipes and as a gift. |
